With Mobility Transition to Smart City Mobility

Feb. 12, 2021

Many municipalities are striving to become a Smart City. That means a greater role for smart information technology and the Internet of Things. This information technology uses sensors to observe things for themselves and then take action on them. The goal is to increase the livability, accessibility, sustainability and well-being of a city, village, municipality. These aspects are not separate: in the field of mobility, one speaks of a mobility transition in which, while keeping the city accessible, account is also taken of, for example, livability and safety. In a Smart City, smart traffic lights, sensors and cameras ensure an optimal flow of traffic, resulting in better accessibility while reducing traffic jams and improving air quality.

The Hague, like other cities, is facing growth and therefore an increase in traffic and less and less space in the city center. To arrive at solutions for the future, the municipality must look at and deal with mobility differently. The municipality calls this 'mobility transition': making mobility Smart City-proof by looking at the interconnectedness of accessibility, sustainability, livability and traffic safety. First, the municipality will encourage space-efficient transportation such as bicycles. Second, with the Hague Mobility Transition, the municipality will focus on digitally connecting mobility services and modes of transport. In addition, the municipality is looking at a transition from owning to using means of transport. In practice, this means that the municipality is working to offer good public transport combined with the sharing of bicycles, cars and scooters. The result of this mobility transition is that the opportunities for people to get around become greater and easier.

Multisensors applies the 'from possession to use' principle with its products. There is no need to buy anything to generate data about vehicles on the bike paths, but you pay a monthly fee for the desired measuring period and you are relieved 24/7.
